My house!

I love my house, I really do.

Daniel Johnston

Its my day off and I just watched the Devil and Daniel Johnston for the first time. Daniel Jonston is one of the best song writers of our generation.

There is an innocence and a beauty to his music that I think thats universally appealing. His lyrics are deceptively simple, and talks about the truths and desires in our own lives. In the song there is a longing and a naive optimism. The emotions are raw the music is simple, and plesant that it forces to listen to him. Its like a sing along or a campfire song in terms of beauty. This was the song that turned me on to Danny j and caused me to download 2gigs of his music.

True love will find you in the end
You're gonna find out that loves your friend
Don't be sad, I know you will
Don't give up until
True love will find you in the end

This is a promise with a catch
Only if youre looking can it find you
Cause true love is searching too
How can it recognize you
Unless you step out into the light, the light?

Don't be sad, I know you will
Don't give up until
True love will find you in the end

Don't be sad, I know you will
Don't give up until
True love will find you in the end

True love will find you in the end
True love will find you in the end
True love will find you in the end

However Daniel Johnston like every genious, lived totally outside of our world. He was an amazing artist and he was never ignorant of his genius. he knew he had an interesting point of view, that he had something special to say and was never unwilling to say. Eventually his genius caught up with him. He went crazy. He would disappear for days on end. He thought the devil was after him. In a manic fit he broke into a womans apartment, broke down her door, and his mania was more than enough to cause this old woman to jump out of a second story window breaking both her ankles.

Its sort of sad, it makes me think of people I met who were undoubtedly special. My friend Paul who is a characters, personality, someone all of his own. Who speaks and writes like no one else, but no one but his girlfriend can't seem to get in contact with him. Or Hans Braun, a brilliant artist/ musician who can seem to cope with every day life.

It make me wonder if there is something that I think attracts us to these people. With Paul, whenever I hung out with him, that he really cared about hat I had to say and really wanted to make sure whoever, he was with new that he cared about them. I know Paul has tendencies that are worrisome, he is irreversibly attached to his girlfriend. Even though she treats and his friends like poo.

Is it love that we are all true looking for in life and when we can't find it, or don't know how to approach it we give more of ourselves than the usual. Daniel Johnston couldn't reconcile his first unrequited love and to this day every song he writes is based on him believing that eventually this girl will love him. The fact that he is incapable of real love made him create the most raw honest music possible. So is it that if we're not capable of giving ourselves to someone through love, we just give it away to everyone. If we don't have someone to share our innermost feelings and desire we find another outlet for it?
